Nordonia Hills High School PTSA, along with Building Boosters from Nordonia Hills, Inc., will host the seventh annual “Fill the Bus” campaign to benefit the Emergency Assistance Center. The Twinsburg Town School District will also participate again.
This is the seventh year that the two school districts have participated in this food drive, said Karen Byers of Building Boosters of Nordonia Hills.
“I would say this campaign has had a very positive impact on the community,” Byers said.
Nordonia Hills Superintendent Joe Clark said schools in Nordonia “typically collect thousands and thousands of pounds of food for the emergency assistance center.”
Byers said the community was being asked to “fill a bus” with non-perishable food items.
Many people continue to need help, ”she said. Those wishing to donate must bring non-perishable non-perishable food to donate. In 2020, the food drive collected 14,600 pounds of non-perishable food in both communities. .
Joyce Hunt, executive director of TEAC, said 501 people were served in 207 households in August, in an August 31 email. This includes 59 households with minors and 33 households with people aged 60 and over. In the information found on teacenter.org, this included 10 new families. TEAC provided sufficient food for 10,521 meals.
Collection bins will be installed in school buildings in the two districts. Additionally, this year Macedonian Parks and Recreation is also promoting the event and will have collection bins at some of their events.
The collection will take place from October 11 to 22. On October 23, football teams from both schools will unload the buses.
“We only have two weeks this year,” Byers said. “TEAC is understaffed. But we know we can still hit those numbers this year, even with these two weeks.”
