The Gail Borden Public Library with partner Free For You Services is offering free tax preparation assistance through April 16 in a filing format. In-person help is not available.
Instead, customers can drop off their tax forms and information at the library on specified days and times.
Customers will be contacted when their tax forms are completed and ready for collection.
Customers eligible for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program can drop off their forms in a locked drop box from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
The forms remain in the locked box until they are collected by the tax department.
