Harford County seeks diaper donations – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The Harford County government is collecting diapers and baby wipes this month for local families who need help.

The cost of these necessities, which are not covered by many “safety net” programs like Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), has increased dramatically in recent months in local pantries. , according to county officials.

“Low-income families are having to choose between buying diapers for their child or buying food,” said Amber Shrodes, director of community services for Harford County. “Babies need clean, dry diapers to stay healthy, but some families just can’t afford them. And the stress of not being able to provide for your child’s basic needs has repercussions, from caregiver anxiety to children’s emotional distress.

People can donate new, unopened diapers and wipes in their original packaging to collection boxes at county government buildings, parks and recreation facilities. They can even leave their donations at senior centers and public libraries until the end of February, according to county officials.

“Thanks to the generosity of our citizens, we have brought thousands of warm socks, mittens and gloves to homeless people through our Socktober drive, and we have provided hundreds of toiletries to veterans in need in November,” County Executive Barry Glassman said. “This February, we hope you’ll help us send some love to babies in Harford by dropping off a package of diapers or wipes in one of our county-wide collection boxes.”
