Mountain View man charged with commercial sexual exploitation of a minor

A Mountain View man is facing multiple charges of sexual exploitation.

County Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that Robert Goodwin, 75, was charged with commercial sexual exploitation of a minor and four misdemeanor counts of commercial sexual exploitation near schools or parks public in connection with a July 23 incident at Carlsmith Beach Park, also known as Four Mile, in Hilo that involved five minors.

The most serious offence, commercial sexual exploitation of a minor, is a Class B felony punishable by 10 years in prison and a fine of at least $5,000.

Goodwin made his first appearance Monday afternoon, July 25, in Hilo District Court. A request from prosecutors to increase his bond was granted. His bail was set at $54,000 and he remains in custody.

The case was handled by Constable Krimsen Abilla of the Hawaii Police Department’s South Hilo Patrol and Detective Richard Itliong of the HPD’s Juvenile Aid Section and Area Criminal Investigation Section. I. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Heipua Ahloy.


“The sexual exploitation of children can cause serious and irrevocable emotional and psychological damage,” Waltjen said in a press release. “Our office is committed to seeking justice for victims and working with law enforcement to protect the keiki by addressing these types of threats, holding offenders accountable, and educating our community about this important concern. .”
