ST. JAMES PARISH, La (BRPROUD) – Residents of St. James Parish can now seek FEMA help in person.
The convent’s senior center now operates as a temporary disaster recovery center (DRC) seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We have FEMA representatives in person with whom residents can come here and visit, and they can consult and express their individual needs and circumstances to them,†said St. James Parish President Pete Dufresne.
You can apply online, by phone or through an app. But Pete Dufresne says meeting in person is best for his community.
“We have a lot of residents who still don’t have internet so I thought it was important to have FEMA representatives here, to live in person where residents can come visit them and talk face to face. to face, â€said Dufresne.
The center also provides tools to help people who may need help, including translators, information in Braille, tools for the visually or hard of hearing, etc.
Dufresne said the parish is also providing transportation for residents who need an elevator to get to the center.
“All residents who need transportation can call our Citizen Service Center and they can schedule their transportation,†Dufresne said.
Almost $ 5 million has been approved for St. James Parish alone, according to a FEMA representative.
Dufrense says they hope to rebuild the West Bank to hopefully open additional recovery centers.
